Give us another chance to vote on the adoption of an EUMC definition into the Equal Opportunities Policy
Background:
• Though the date of the GM was given in an email to all students, there was no mention of this particular motion. The previous GM was advertised to all students with a list of motions that would be presented, including one to amend the Equal Opportunities Policy.
• The only advertisement this motion received by special-interest parties was from a Facebook group set up by the proposer of the motion, which is a selective and restricted method of advertising.
• We believe that this is a problem, and that any motions affecting equal opportunities should receive the maximum possible debate.
• The vast majority of students remain unaware that this motion was passed and have not seen a copy of it.
• We believe that the student body should get the chance to have another, more representative debate on this subject.
We the undersigned petition the Guild to provide another opportunity for students to vote for/against the motion to adopt the EUMC definition of anti-Semitism into the Equal Opportunities Policy, on the grounds that it was not adequately advertised and the resulting passage of the motion was therefore not representative or democratic.
