18 signatures so far! Petition created by: Josh Saipan is an island in the Marianas of Micronesia in the Pacific. Saipan has a $billion dollar garment industry that sells clothes mainly to large Corporations in the U.S. The Saipan garment industry is known for many human rights abuses with it's large population of young female migrant workers from Asia. Please help tell the United States Congress that enough is enough. We must bring reform to the garment industry in the American Commonwealth of Saipan. The minimum wage on Saipan is $3.05 an hour, and it is only expected to go up 50 cents a year due to a bill that was recently passed. Many migrant workers are being caught up in this situation where some employers charge them as much as $8,000 just to work for them. This operation forces many young girls to waste their youth away in crowded, unclean, and inhumane conditions. Many of these companies complete their garment quota, then leave the island, while abandoning the workers unpaid. When these companies close their doors, many of the girls are forced into prostitution which is another problem on the island. Corporations should not profit from the labor of the poor while ignoring their working conditions. Please sign this petition and let the United States Congress know, that you care about this issue.. Thank YOU in advance!! 18 have signed so far - help us get to 5,000. We have achieved 0.36% of our goal. Let's keep going! Sign the petition! Details, Impact and Progress Lets tell major corporations that they are responsible for how workers are treated in poor countries while they make products for these companies. Once this petition has reached it's goal it will be delivered to the Speaker of the House in the United States Congress. keywords: human rights, civil rights, slavery, workers rights, globalism, economy, music, song, movie, video, film, politics, economics, fun, environmentalism, environment, eco, campaign, election, rainforest, global warming, women's rights, child labor, human trafficking, sweatshops, poverty, freedom, peace, Comments Note: This service is provided as a service to TakingITGlobal Members.
