Petition created by: Allan Mackintosh

In 2004 South Ayrshire Council started tentative plans to try and exit from a lease of The Marr College and its playing fields in order to buy the playing fields and build a new school there claiming that the present school site was 'unfit for purpose'. After concentrating on other schools, this year (2010) the Council have once again promoted to the people of Troon a proposal that outlines a new build school on the playing fields and as a result will take away nearly 40% of the playing surface. At a recent series of public meetings it became clear that the people of Troon would much prefer a refurbishment of the present school building and site along with an upgrading of the playing fields to provide a true community sports complex. The purpose of the e-petition is to get your support for this campaign.

Details, Impact and Progress

There are huge benefits to ensuring our campaign is successful. Firstly, a historic building is saved and made 'fit for purpose' for the children being educated there. Secondly the sports fields are maintained and developed further in order to get more children and adults active in sport and recreation. Thirdly, whilst it is still in debate this may actually save the tax payer money in the long run, and finally, the heritage, traditions and values of Marr College are maintained. Please give us your support. We aim to collect 5000 e-petition signiatures by September 30th 2010.
