Details, Impact and Progress

Dear Fellow Environmentalist,

Did you know CO2 is also accompanied by SO2 (sulphur dioxide) in the Pacific? Are you aware that SO2 changes the ph of the water, making it more acidic? That affects the plants and fish groups. And as the Pacific Ring of volcanoes also churns out high levels of SO2 and CO2, then effectively this one area is the best example of climate change due to global warming.

We need to act NOW!

Does this excuse big business? To the contrary, if anything it warns of the dangers, a beacon or two of planet reacting to the acid in the oceans. There are solutions and they are easy enough to produce. It takes time and planning, but it can be done. This is just basic chemistry, ecology and geology.

I want you to think, it IS a real problem. Not, oh the Pacific is miles away and it is not really my problem. I want you to email everybody you know. And I want you to get them to go to their politicians and ensure the creation of ocean reserves. The Oceans need protection. At the moment only 1% of the Pacific is protected. Would you be happy with a pay out of 1% home contents insurance for damages? 1% back on your car insurance when you write it off? 1% of all fish protected for the future? Food price increases? Economic turmoil? Would you seriously want 1% back of your lifetime savings?

By signing this petition you are contributing to the protection of biodiversity in the seas and agree that the UN and G20 need to set up Ocean Reserves to 5% of Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans, with marine sanctuaries to ensure the safeguard of island communities and cultures.
