Symphysiotomy In Ireland

Symphysiotomy In Ireland

This petition aims to promote an awareness of women in Ireland during the latter half of the nineteenth century undergoing symphysiotomies without consent. They unknowingly underwent these operations which have later found out to be unnecessary. These procedures have left over 100 women with disabilities and have caused some women to suffer from incontinence. A solicitor in Ireland called Colm MacGeehin is representing just over 100 women trying to get them compensation for the suffering they have been through. The symphysiotomy operations only took place because of the Catholic influence in Irish Hospitals such as Our Lady's of Lourdes Hospital.
