Petition created by: yorgo sam Despite how United Arab Emirates (UAE) became a civilized country in terms of roads, building and services but it is still in the middle-age when it comes to sentences and jails. The drug law is unfair and blind and deals with most drug cases in similar way regardless of the type of drugs, quantity or if the age is more than 18 but below 22. As an example a 20 year university student was caught with 4 gr marijuana in his pocket was sent to jail for 4 years. Thanks god he admits that it was for his own use otherwise the sentence could be 10 years. By talking to lawyers and law enforcement you will understand that the judgment is based on instruction by the rulers and not on law. It means despite the circumstances, age, and social conditions or type of drugs the sentence will be 4 years minimum since the instruction dictates it. If the police suspected any person for drug abuse, they have the right to arrest him and force him for a very advanced urine test. An advance urine test will trace two joints of marijuana for the past week. The average UAE temperature in the summer is 45c and humidity is 90%. Most UAE jails are without air conditions and over crowded. One or two jails in Dubai are in better conditions. Dubai police treatment is civilized compare to other emirates Dubai officers are more tolerant in general but the problem still the mixture of under the same roof. A 20-year young guy should deal and live with murderers and rappers for 4 years because he had 4 gr of marijuana. To be fair with Dubai in some cases H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid is accepting some petitions to release some individual in Dubai jails only but with life deportation outside UAE if they are not citizens regardless if the individual was born and spent all his life in Dubai.
