We, the undersigned, make an urgent appeal to MONUC to fulfill its international obligations and immediately arrest Nkunda to face justice for his war crimes and crimes against humanity. In September 2005 the government issued an international arrest warrant for Nkunda for numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity and his whereabouts have been well-known to the U.N. peacekeepers since the warrant for his arrest was issued.
Nkunda has been implicated in numerous war crimes, crimes against humanity and other serious human rights abuses since 2002. Several international human rights organizations included Amnesty International and Human and Human Rights Watch have documented summary executions, torture, civilian massacre, recruiting child soldiers some as young as 12 after abducting them from their homes, looting, sexual violence and rape committed by soldiers under Nkunda's command for the past 6 years.
The continuing horrific killing of innocent civilians and children in North Kivu testifies that Human Rights Watch was right then in 2006 and it’s today. “So long as Nkunda is at large, the civilian population remains at grave risk"
