Their romance and relationship is something that can be used to educate others about what Love really is and how it should be. I've now also sent the invite out to the Facebook group "I support Joey and Charlie." They've got 150 members and growing. I'm hoping to see all their signatures here. I've just made people on Yahoo7 aware of this petition through the messageboards. (11.52am Singapore time) My reply to ongoing debate on the Yahoo7 forums about this petition - I started the petition because I feel that True Love should transcend all barriers. It doesn't mean that just because men and women anatomically 'fit' each other that they should go together. Look at the soaring divorce rates and break-ups among couples. It is also a fact that there is a much lower percentage of heterosexual couples staying together for life than homosexual ones. Love should a last a lifetime and beyond that into eternity. So for me, I'm not going to fall in love with someone because of their physical disabilities or abilities, the colour of their skin, hair or eyes, their race, culture or religion, their gender; I'm going to fall in love with a person who makes me feel complete and whole, and who will be there by my side when I need them to be. For girl, you don't always find that in guys, and vice versa. If this were between two men, I'd still start a petition for them. And if one day, a girl walks into my life and I feel right about her and her about me, I'm not going slam that door in Love's face, because True Love doesn't come often, and when it does, you should at least give it a try. I'm glad to report it's not doing as well, with only 3 signatures so far. I've also replied to her petition - I'm the one who started the Keep Charlie and Joey Together Petition, and to quote you "The media should not force their opinions on people as young as children that watch this show. Just because the media deems something right or normal, it doesn't mean it is. People have a right to make their own minds up and form their own opinions without a TV show at family hour forcing it down our throats." The media is made up of people my friend, all sorts of people, some of whom are homosexual and bisexual and wish to express themselves. They're not forcing you to watch the show. If you don't think you want your kids watching it, turn the TV off and play a game with them. If you don't want to watch the Charlie-Joey parts, just turn the TV off for a minute or two while they show them. The media should cater to everyone and not discriminate. And you talk about what's "right and normal". May I ask, how does any human being have the right to judge that? Are we all not flawed? The majority in society has often been proven wrong, and so has "science" and "biology". Without Love, those two words are without meaning, because what do we always say makes up the human race? "Faith, Hope and Love" right? By censoring such relationships on TV, you don't just kill one of those words, you kill all three. It's not like you don't have a choice not to watch Charlie and Joey. I know you say you're not a hater, so thank you for that. But you obviously still have prejudices that need to be gotten rid off. You have never fallen in Love with someone of the same sex before, never been in that situation, so you don't understand. (10.11am Singapore time) Someone on the Yahoo!7 forums passed some really negative comments on the petition, and I felt I just had to say something, so this is what I replied - To white_husky, I hope you do know that many more people got interested in H&A because of this storyline. People who lost interest in the show years ago came back, and people like me, who are NOT Aussies, New Zealanders or from the UK, took notice of H&A only after watching Charlie and Joey. Now H&A is more widely known, and that propels Australian TV to whole new level, so I think it's something to be proud of rather than to shun away from. And just like you are entitled to your own opinions, so are we, who support the storyline and homosexual and bisexual rights. This storyline is about homosexuality in society and how to deal with it, as well as the relationship between Charlie and Joey. There's no one without the other, which is why the petition supports both. Like I said, no one's forcing you to sign it. If I had said "You MUST sign it!!!" and stuff like that, I would understand if you took your objections out on me personally, but I've been open and understanding with my words, and I'm always cautious not to come across as demanding or coercive, so I don't think it was very nice of you to say that I'm abusing this site. Just like you, I have views to state, and I'm doing the petition because I feel in my heart it is right. It has reached out to over a thousand people. At least I'm doing something about prejudice and discrimination in this world. And I'm only one person. There are so many issues here that could do with petitions and awareness, like rape and drugs. For me, because homosexuality and bisexuality are closest to my heart, I chose to do it. I understand how both Charlie and Joey feel, and I can easily empathize with them. However, we still have to keep this petition going strong so that we can hit our target of 10,000 in the next, hopefully, 2 months, and show H&A that it is worth bringing back Joey (Kate Bell) into Charlie's (Esther Anderson) life and keep her there permanently. I have promptly deleted such signatures as I want this petition to be as accurate a reflection as possible of the number of people who support the Charlie-Joey storyline as well as homosexual and bisexual rights.
