The Canadian government's decision to not yet recognize Kosovo as the 28th nation in Europe on February 18 is outrageous. What does one group of people have to do to gain acceptance and recognition from our government as their own soverign entity?
After years of suffering, repression, discrimination and abuse, a majority that has been treated as non-existant should be recognized by our government as they are given what they have always rightfully deserved.
After strong support of Kosovars during the war in 1999 and thereafter, it is hypocritical for the Canadian government to deny recognizing a peoples right to an independent existance from an oppressive state.
I think most people would acknowledge that the distinction between Quebec's situation and Kosovo's situation is as far-fetched as 'black and white'.
It's noticable that aggrandtisizing Quebec in this is, in itself, not a viable reason for why Canada should or should not support Kosovo's independence. Canada's unity is by no means threatened by Kosova's independence.
This petition is to take a stand telling the Candian government to act in the spirit of fellow democracies and NATO allies in recognizing Kosova's statehood.
