9 signatures so far! Petition created by: LCpiao They say we are the future. They say we are the hope. They say we are change. They say we are power. Yet, we can't vote. In Canada, all but two groups have the right to vote: the mentally insane, and the young. Ontario MP Mark Holland (Liberal - Ajax-Pickering), who has introduced a private member's bill in Parliament, says 16-year-olds, can drive, pay taxes and be charged with adult crimes. So why can't they vote? Why can't we? As the Brazilian and Cuban 16-year-olds march to the polling stations to cast their first ballots, all we can do is cross our fingers and place our vague hope for a better future in the hands of our older and supposedly "wiser" counterparts. Well, the 40% of them who actually show up to vote, that is. "What kind of twisted message do we send when we tell youth they are judged mature, responsible adults when they commit murder, but silly, brainless kids when they want to vote?... Lowering the voting age is the just, fair way to set things straight." - National Youth Rights Association To quote Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." That very group of individuals can be us young people, if they give us the chance; and by signing this petition, you include yourself in the description. Help us get a voice! 9 have signed so far - help us get to 2,000. We have achieved 0.45% of our goal. Let's keep going! Sign the petition!
