I think this is an outrage that must be stopped. Here in the UK we are spied on by our local and national governments by cameras and other methods and we have quietly let them walk all over us. They want to keep all our emails and log everybody's' movements throughout the web. 'Luckily' this credit crisis means they do not have the money to do this and other heinous ideas.

Stephen Conroy just doesn't get it: he is now the 'unwanted material' If his government continues with this lunacy, then it will become 'unwanted material' just 2 words to help him along....BALLOT BOX !!
Australië I4HumanRights - Sep 25, 2009

I could not believe what I was hearing as I watched the news through the internet. Australia is a country that is perceived by other nationalities as “forward thinking”. I have met many Australians in my life time and find them to be a wonderful personable people full of knowledge, heart and experience. That makes my biggest worry over this proposal “internet censorship” to be the fallout that will accompany the Australian people. Australians would not be a part of global internet marketing /socialization through internet gaming, movies and other cultural sharing genres. This will hurt Australian’s by limiting their marketing/socialization scope. Furthermore this limits creative areas of development for Australia’s gaming, movie, cartoon, 3d design, and multimedia industry. These creative venues that are developing all over the world and creating new careers, could seriously suffer a stunted growth in Australia if this censorship is proposed. A censoring of “Adult” internet use is limiting their ability to seek out knowledge in all forms. A censoring of “Child” use of the internet is filtering what is age appropriate with the child’s learning stages and protecting them from harm. I find it sad to think that the Australian government would have the audacity to censor it’s adult population of internet users to create an easy solution for its people. It seems to boil down to the easiest solution, and not the right solution to the problem. There has to be a better way to accomplish internet safety, without driving up internet prices and cutting off the flow of “Adult information”, marketing and socialization of a nation of adults.

Internet censorship. How the hell can that even be legal in a civilized country? It's a cold day in hell if this gets through. I'm not even an Australian and this is making me pretty damn angry.
Verenigd Koninkrijk Stewart Muirhead - Feb 22, 2009

This internet censorship crap may have flown 10 years ago when the coalition realized it was crap. Now when the internet is one of the most important facets of Australian life they think they can slow it down by around about 30% block website that they deem innapropriate (which could be anything) waste taxpayer money make us the laughing stock of developed democracies Block legitimate websites by mistake
Australië Zelda1 - Jan 17, 2009

The internet is simply not a childs place, a childs place should be out in the park playing tiggy running and being children, get them off the net and give them life fuck. and yeah independent filtering solves childrens problems, meanwhile the adults should be able to do what they see fit. internet = adult place.
Australië Harry - Jan 16, 2009

One sentence; human rights violation. Whoever gave you the only set of eyes in this blinded wold, Senator Conroy?
Canada Hahwe - Dec 10, 2008

Totally agree, mickeymouse1. I couldnt believe it when I first heard about this. I mean I know Kevin Rudd is an utter MORON, but thats because I have high standards. I never imagined he would stoop this low. On top of the "sorry day", kyoto ratification, fuelwatch, alcopop taxes, "national broadband plan", unlimited bank gurantees, IR reform abolitioning, jet-setting, dubya-saluting, earwax-eating, media-whoring, and cliche-dropping -- This is like a nightmare come to life. Maybe its time I move to the states permanently, since we've gone from the best to worse leader ever, in roughly the same time they've gone from one of the worst to best leaders ever. To hell with censorship. This reminds me a bit of earlier this year when some work of Bill Henson (who was a really influential artist on me goin through highschool) was called out as child pornography. K. Rudd himself called it "disgusting" and I think henson almost got charged fo it or something. SPARE ME. If anything, It only shows how fcuked in the head ruddy is that he can see a naked child and think - sex. There's always gona be some freaks out there being turned on by something - and anything. Adjusting OUR world to cater for the paradigms of twisted fcuks is the LAST thing we should do (in terms of effectiveness) - Not to mention nauseatingly undesirable. Just because some pervert is getting off on some picture DOESNT make the picture itself perverted, otherwise we'd have to censor/prohibit ALL child photography. - Cos thats reality.
Australië Catie - Nov 24, 2008

we dont need big brother looking after us, the internet is a free for all to use, let us be responsible for our actions.like the tv if you dont like what is on just turn the bloody thing off. everyone is responsible for their own actions, we dont need babysitting, dont judge us by your standards. this is a democratic country, not a communist country. we have the right to vote and the freedom of speech, i am sick and tired of the majority paying the price for the minorities actions.
Australië mickeymouse1 - Nov 14, 2008

I hope you to succeed in fighting against censorship. Also in my country, Japan, the government is trying to censor the Internet by changing law to the new one that prohibiting accessing and having "illigal contents." It will be possible that everyone can be arrested because he/she takes a look at "illigal contents" even though no one can control what they access. How crazy!
Japan Akira Kamishiro - Nov 11, 2008

It will never work... See you all for the protest in Melbourne!!!

the whole thing is pointless like all internet censorship crap someone will beat it post what they did on the net and all the government will accomplish is slowing down our inter net when we are only just getting to some decent speeds.and spending a heap of our hard earned money. and what is Conroy trying to censor exactly he a fuckin fool if he censor one thing then that will probably censor out a hundred otherthings that arnt that bad just by asociation and how the hell would anyone beable to find out any truth on anything if half our fuckin internet is blocked fuckin idiot
Australië luke - Nov 3, 2008

I just read the 98 page report by the ACMA - they were told not to look into cost at all and most of the products tested did so poorly, I think there was one that did alright but still, this blanket cover is such a SHIT idea. The one place in the world with freedom is trying to be controlled by the government. FUCK YOU!
Australië xodesign - Oct 30, 2008

the only reasons these right winged harvesters and keepers of fear are in politics is because everyone thinks they can run the economy, that is it, GET out of peoples lives, don't think you can ruin everyone elses because you've chosen politics, if you don't have a life, leave politics and get one.
Australië fred johnson - Oct 22, 2008

This Internet filter idea is insane, hope this petition gets rid of it before it begins.
