Details, Impact and Progress

To the Government of Canada:
Whereas a majority of Canadians agree that U.S. military personnel who are refusing to participate in the U.S.-led war in Iraq should be allowed to stay in Canada; and Whereas on June 3rd, 2008 the House of Commons adopted a motion calling on the Government of Canada to immediately implement a program to allow conscientious objectors and their families to stay in Canada and to halt all deportation proceedings against them; therefore We the undersigned call on the Government of Canada to respect the will of the House of Commons and the wishes of the people of Canada and immediately implement the motion of June 3rd, 2008 by creating a program to allow conscientious objectors to the illegal Iraq war and their family members to apply for permanent resident status in Canada, and halting all deportation proceedings against them.

So far, 65% Canadians have supported the war resisters but still the Government has not approved the motion.
