16 signatures so far! Petition created by: Laura Fawzia This petition is to show our opposition to Americas recent tactical attacks on Pakistan, and to try and prevent the War from spreading further. Over the past three months America has launched various seemingly random UNPROVOKED attacks on Pakistan, slaughtering innocent people from villages and schools. They claim it is an attack on the militants, but there is little evidence to support this. Any response shown by the victim country toward the west could be taken as a threat. So Pakistan is left defenceless, as American troops continue to taunt its civilians: • September 3rd 2008 US Special Forces attack Musa Nikow, a village near Angor Adela in the South Waziristan region of Pakistan. American and Afghani troops backed by helicopter gunships descened at 4.30am under the cover of darkness and murdered twenty people including men, women and children. • 25th September 2008 US/Nato helicopters crossed a Pakistani border check point, and troops fired two warning shots. The helicopters then with drew. The Pentagon claims that the helicopters were not in Pakistani airspace, as the region borders Afghanistan. However, if they had crossed a Pakistani check point, (which they did as this is where the shots originated from) surely they would be in Pakistan. • October 24th 2008 An American missile destroys an Islamic school close to the village of Miranshah near the Afgan border. Eight lives were lost. It is claimed the attack was aimed at the 72 yr old Jalaluddin Haqqani, who is believed to be an old ally to Osama Bin Laden in the eighties. However, the school was set up with US backing, and Haqqani was in Afagnistan at the time of the attack. Imran Khan, an ex cricketer and now politician, said to The Times “The way the war is being fought is like putting fire out with gasoline.” The American attacks killing innocent women and children anger the people of Pakistan, who then see the Americans as the enemy. This behaviour encourages anger and war, and does not improve the situation. The three attacks above did not destroy potential threats, they did not save anyone from plots of attack, they had in fact no positive impact what so ever. These acts push us further away from a solution, and provoke danger. We must show our government that we do not support this and we do not agree with America’s aggressive war mongering politics. Details, Impact and Progress A Protest was held on 15th November in Portsmouth town centre UK. 50 signatures were gainned and the protesters marched about a mile around town chanting and holding banners. A facebook has been started accessible on www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=38036291746 The petition will be forwarded to the MP for South Portsmouth Mike Hancock when 250 signatures have been added.
